I had the wonderful opportunity to go to Education Week a few weeks ago, and I thought I'd type some of my notes up on this blog to share some of the spirit and learning from Education Week for those who weren't able to be there.
I went to many great and inspiring classes, but my favorite was taught by C. Robert Line, and the subject was Christ's Infinite Atonement.
These are my notes from the first day of class:
He went over some things that demonstrate God and Christ's Omnipotence and Omniscience. Here are a few of them:
God knows what we're going to do before we do it. Not just because He knows us so well that He can predict what we will do, but because He has already seen us do it. He sees rather than foresees everything. All things are present before Him.
There are over 10 billion galaxies in the known universe. Light can go around the earth 8 times in 1 second, yet it takes 8 minutes for the light from the sun to get to us. That means the space that those 10 billion galaxies take up is more immense than we are even capable of comprehending.
Then Brother Line listed 10 ways that Christ's Atonement is Infinite.
1 - It is incomprehensible
2 - Its source is infinite - Christ is an eternal and infinite being. (Alma 34:9-10, 12)
3 - It is infinite in overcoming physical death. Every person with a physical body will be resurrected.
4 - It covers all sins. (Except for the sin against the Holy Ghost, which is a rejection of the Atonement. Satan and his followers committed this sin in the pre-existence when they rejected God's plan to send Christ to the earth to Atone for our sins.)
5 - He endured an infinite depth of suffering. He suffered for each and every one of us individually, for our sicknesses, sorrows, and sins.
6 - It covers an infinite amount of time. Not only does it cover the time before Christ came to the earth, but it covers the pre-existence as well. (D&C 93:38, and Alma 13:1-4) When we are born as infants, we are innocent because of the Atonement, which paid for our sins in the pre-existence. (D&C 74:7)
7 - It applies to all of God's creatures
8 - It extends to His creations on other worlds (D&C 76:24)
9 - It is infinite in its potential for the recipient. Because of the Atonement, we can become infinite creators as well.
10 - It is infinite in its ability to reach us.
There is no "point of no return" for us. We can always repent. Satan lies about this. You need to have absolute confidence that you can repent and be forgiven because you've already done it once (in the pre-existence).
I hope you enjoyed these thoughts. I'll be back to post my notes from the other days of this class another time. Sooner rather than later, hopefully. :o)
